Welcome to ParaVox, the new anthology magazine from Tusen Serier, a space for anti-racist comics made by a gathering of international comics creators. We want to take a look at reality and cross the borders between art/storytelling while taking part in the evolution of society. Activism in comics form!
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
We live in a time when the political discourse is often both idiotic and increasingly racist. A time when the promises of liberal democracy are exposed as hollow and exclusionary (as many have known for a long time). With ParaVox, we want to be a counterweight to the kakistocracies. We will be a platform for voices moving in other directions.
We want to draw the spotlight to issues that need more examination, and we want to use the medium of comics to do it. The combination of text and images is not only its own language, with dialects and variations. It is an artform for storytelling that is shared among readers and creators all across the world.
Throughout history, systems of power have tried to conceal their violence, to such a degree that some people have been (and are) able to close their eyes to the injustices they’ve perpetuated. Meanwhile, those subjected to enslavement, exploitation and dehumanization have always understood their reality with clarity.
ParaVox will be a voice parallel to the mainstream, presenting comics that contribute to a process of decolonization that has been going on all over the world for much longer than the hegemonic forces have acknowledged. We want to counteract the dehumanization that allows genocide and abuse to be rhetorically justified.
Sweden has long been rumored internationally to be a sort of socialist utopia, a wonder of equality and inclusion. We who live here know better, and we say ”Enough!” because those rumors have created a space for our government/s to erode the promise of all those concepts. Instead of aspiring to them, they’re working to dismantle legal security, asylum rights and even citizenship, to uproot worker’s rights in the name of profits, to destroy the welfare system to make space for tax cuts, and to do weapons trade with dictatorships and genocidal states. All while we’re expected to happily wave the flag and be grateful.
Instead, we will use ParaVox to raise other voices, and hopefully to prove that another world is possible.
We are based in Malmö, Sweden, but we invite creators from all over the world to take part in this project.
Check the call for submissions for the first four issues, to be published during 2026.
